JOB SUMMARY
Provide brief mental health counseling, life skills coaching and the promotion of health education activities for undergraduate students registered on the main PLNU campus.This is a temporary 1 year assignment with the potential of continued appointment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the direct supervision of the Wellness Senior Clinician, the Student Success and Wellness Counselor /Life Skills Coach is responsible to:
- Provide mental health assessment, followed by brief mental health counseling as appropriate or referral to outside resources.
- Function as a part of a Student Life and Formation case management/treatment team.
- Maintain network of off campus clinical referrals and community resources.
- Administer protocols to manage high risk clinical issues.
- Provide mental health assessment to determine immediate risk for self-harm; make appropriate referrals.
- Act as a liaison, actively collaborate, and provide referrals to assist students to access appropriate campus office or department.
- Provide training to colleagues, staff, faculty and groups of students.
- Lead process and psycho-educational groups for students.
- Provide consultation and support to Student Life and Formation administrative staff as requested.
- Participate in rotational on-call schedule and respond to afterhours mental health emergencies.
- Develop and implement collaborative student focused health education activities
- Provide life skills coaching for student support.
- Act as a liaison, actively collaborate, and provide referrals to appropriate Student Life and Formation program and/or service areas
- Provide all services within the context of the Wellness Counseling Services team.
- Support campus community standards in the provision of student services as articulated in the PLNU Student Handbook.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Education, Counseling or related field required.
- Valid licensure as a Clinical Psychologist, Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred.
- Experience in the provision of brief mental health counseling required.
- Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of Point Loma Nazarene University.
- Strong track record of interdisciplinary work and collaboration.
- Ability to conduct substance abuse assessment and facilitate appropriate referrals, preferred.
- Strong understanding of human development, especially as related to traditional-aged college students.
- Ability to conceptualize and intervene across systems (e.g. academic affairs, student development, spiritual development, administrative offices and departments, and community resources.)
- 3-5 years counseling experience within a campus health care facility, college/university, or other human service agency, preferred.
- Knowledge of guidelines for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title II, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act for the provision of disability support within postsecondary settings, preferred.
- Knowledge of Strengths Quest© best practices for integration into a cohesive strengths-based life skills coaching program, preferred.
- Commitment to abide by the PLNU Community Living Agreement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Vision to read documents, email and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.
