RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advises students admitted to the University on tuition payment options and financial aid information through one-on-one counseling, telephone and email communication, and printed materials.
  • Guides students through the financial aid process, including Federal Stafford loans, Alternative loans, PLUS loans, and all state aid programs, as well as institutional aid policies, through phone, email, and face-to-face communication.
  • Educates students regarding financial aid program guidelines, regulations, and deadlines.
  • Verifies student status in the financial aid process, including completion of the FAFSA and entrance/exit interviews.
  • Assists students with questions regarding missing documents, Award Letters, and data required for financial aid packaging.
  • Advises parents of prospective and continuing students of financial considerations at various stages of the financial aid process, while minding all FERPA regulations.
  • Provides accurate and timely student account information upon request.
  • Advises students and parents of tuition payment options.
  • Provides students with accurate information on their loan status using PowerFAIDS and other applicable databases, and communicates with lenders and guarantors, as necessary, to resolve loan issues.
  • Communicates with various offices to resolve registration and other issues that affect student accounts and financial aid.
  • Follows-up with students regarding delinquent accounts, late fees, and financial holds.
  • Has responsibility for supporting one or more specialty areas, as assigned.  Specialties may include Study Abroad programs, payment contracts, outside billing, Veteran’s Benefits, Title IV refunds, or various other tasks and responsibilities.
  • Occasionally participates in events that may occur outside of normal working hours, such as New Student Orientation, financial aid presentations, Commencement ceremony, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.  Experience working with financial services at the university level is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate and counsel effectively, both orally and in writing, and to handle a high volume of phone calls, emails, and one-on-one counseling.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of Point Loma Nazarene University.
  • Positive, friendly disposition and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, staff, and faculty.
  • Computer proficiency required with Word and Excel; PowerFAIDS and Jenzabar CX knowledge preferred. 
  •  Strong organizational skills and ability to use independent judgment in prioritizing, producing, and managing tasks.
  • Accuracy, neatness and attention to detail.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Vision to read documents, e-mail and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.
