JOB SUMMARY
The person in this position will lead the CJR in establishing and maintaining a centralized clearinghouse for human trafficking related research in the San Diego/Tijuana region. (50%) This position is also responsible for developing and sustaining effective management of CJR grants, including identifying new sources of funding and grant writing. (50%)Research duties will include: 1) aggregating regional HT-related research, 2) convening and facilitating collaboration between HT researchers working in the region, 3) facilitating the networking between practitioners and researchers, 4) identifying potential HT research funding for researchers studying HT in San Diego/Tijuana, 5) improving public knowledge of the results of county-wide research related to human trafficking across multiple disciplines and sectors through regular a) research updates and b) an annual research conference.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the mission, activities, staff, students and volunteers of PLNU’s Center for Justice and Reconciliation, particularly as it relates to its human trafficking work, per the direction of the Director
- Lead the CJR in providing Human Trafficking Research Assistance and Coordination Services as outlined in the contract with the County of San Diego’s Public Safety Group contract:
- Create infastructure, direct and coordinate all program aspects for the Human Trafficking Research and Data Advisory Roundtable (HT-RADAR), including all systems, processes, and tools for all activities and events.
- Investigate and develop new initiatives for the further growth of HT-RADAR, including the development of short and long term goals and partnerships.
- Provide monthly updates to the Public Safety Group on the progress of regional and national human trafficking research efforts and best-practice models.
- Supply quarterly research briefs that are timely, dependable and of high-quality related to the past, present and future trends and opportunities in the field of human trafficking academic research.
- Provide hosting and coordination of quarterly meetings involving the Human Trafficking Research and Data Advisory Roundtable (HT-RADAR) and interested parties.
- Assist in the identification of the research needs identified through the SD County HT Advisory Council
- Identify HT funding opportunities for regional human trafficking research,
- Design, direct and coordinate all aspects of the annual San Diego County Human Trafficking Research Conference which will serve as a national gathering of interested academic researchers and stakeholders directly involved in the field of human trafficking.
- Assist in seeking external funding and sponsorships through grant writing and donor requests.
- Designing and implementing a conference budget
- Recruiting and managing a conference coordinating committee
- Designing and implementing a conference marketing plan
- Coordinating logistics for all speakers and presenters
- Managing registration
- Designing and distributing conference materials
- Coordinating Continuing Education Units for various sectors
- Conference evaluation
- Develop and sustain a grants management program for the CJR, including overseeing overall grant efforts, enhancing funding models, managing grant budgets, documenting deliverables, preparing progress and financial reports, ensuring compliance with grant regulations, reviewing grant proposals, managing timelines and deliverables for grants and managing grant databases.
- Manage budgets and accounts for the CJR, including setting annual budgets and monitoring expenses, updating financial records and generating reports, and identifying funding goals and sources.
- Research funding opportunities, write grant proposals and track grant applications.
- Coordinate and supervise to meet the research needs of other CJR programs. This coordination and supervision may include programs such as:
- kNOw MORE! evaluation research
- CJR Research partnerships with community organizations such as Catholic Charities, San Diego Youth Services, etc.
- General research needs of the CJR
OVERVIEW
The Public Safety Group, in partnership with the community we serve, are dedicated to the pursuit of truth, justice and protection of the innocent, through a collaborative, evidence-based approach across our criminal justice system. The Public Safety Group and its District Attorney and Sheriff’s Department, through their participation on the San Diego County Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Advisory Council, have committed to implementing a holistic, countywide approach integrating the Four P’s Model of the U.S. Department of Justice: Prevention, Protection, Prosecution and Partnerships. The funding for this position comes from the County of San Diego’s Public Safety Group and the District Attorney’s office.
PLNU provides Human Trafficking Research Assistance and Coordination Services to San Diego County to further this commitment. These services include:
- All labor, equipment and software necessary to provide regular research updates and briefs to the County of San Diego Public Safety Group, and corresponding public safety entities, regarding human trafficking within San Diego County.
- Proofreading and quality assurance of all updates, briefs and documents provided to the County.
- Hosting, coordinating and assisting the Human Trafficking Research and Data Advisory Roundtable (HT-RADAR) and County agencies in an effort to identify and expand future research targets.
- Aggregating regional human trafficking-related research for easy accessibility by the County of San Diego public safety entities.
- Coordination of an annual Human Trafficking Research Summit for the County of San Diego.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Ability to read documents, email and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Ability to stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 20 lbs throughout the day.
