JOB SUMMARY

Point Loma Nazarene University is seeking a full time Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the entry-level Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program. This appointment is for a 12-month, Administrative Faculty position, starting July 1, 2022. We invite strong candidates to consider applying for this position who have prior experience developing fieldwork curriculum and securing and maintaining clinical partners for a graduate occupational therapy program. Rank and position type are commensurate with individual experience. The Program is an Applicant Program anticipating admitting its first cohort of students in Fall 2023.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must meet ACOTE requirements for the position which include:  

  • An earned Doctorate degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy or a related field is preferred; a master’s degree will be accepted.
  • A minimum of 2 years of documented clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist; 5-7 years experience preferred.
  • Licensed as an occupational therapist according to CA state regulation.  

The ideal candidate will have strong evidence of excellence in teaching and fieldwork education, previous experience supervising occupational therapy students, the ability to develop the occupational therapy fieldwork curriculum to meet the needs of accreditation, and the ability to establish and maintain clinical partners in traditional and non-traditional settings.  Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to excellent leadership and expertise in teaching in a Christian liberal arts context, will display a strong potential for applied scholarship and service in healthcare, and will embrace the mission of Point Loma Nazarene University.

General Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work directly with the program director to set a vision for establishing the Level 1 and 2 fieldwork experiences, will possess the experience, ambition and ability to secure clinical partners, and will assist the Director in ensuring the initial successful accreditation of the program. In addition, the candidate will have sufficient knowledge of the ACOTE fieldwork standards and accreditation process, and the ability to organize and manage complex data related to these functions. 

Background: 

Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) is a small private Christian liberal arts institution located in San Diego, California.  The College of Health Sciences, housed in the state-of-the-art Balboa Regional Center, has a strong existing core of graduate health sciences programs, including fully accredited Athletic Training, Physician Assistant and Clinical Counseling programs, and robust programs in Sport Performance, Exercise Science, Integrative Wellness and Sport Management.  We plan to begin enrolling students in the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program in the Fall of 2023.
